Basketball Recap: West Iredell Comes Up Short

West Iredell had lost four straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 1-2 to make it five. They fell 54-45 to the St. Stephens Indians. The contest was a 26-26 toss-up at halftime, but the Warriors couldn't quite close it out.

Despite the loss, West Iredell still got an impressive performance from Austin Bailey, who shot 50% from the field on his way to 17 points and six rebounds. Phil Maxey was another key player, putting up eight points and seven boards.

As for St. Stephens, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0. Those 54 points were actually the fewest they have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Jachavis Sherrill produced another solid performance going 8-for-11 to rack up 25 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. The game was his fourth in a row with at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Alan Wilson, who shot 60% from the field en route to 12 points.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. West Iredell will venture away from home to take on West Wilkes at 7:00 p.m. on the 4th. As for St. Stephens, they will face off against Draughn at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
