Softball Recap: Richland Center Takes a Loss

Fans were treated to a battle of the Hornets on Thursday. Richland Center fell just short of Wauzeka-Steuben by a score of 9-8. Richland Center was not able to make up for their loss to Wauzeka-Steuben from their previous meeting back in April of 2017.

Kyree Fischer was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out 13 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Carley Mieden and Abaigeal Williams did some serious damage despite the final result: Mieden went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while Williams went 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that Williams has hit this season.

Richland Center dropped their record down to 5-6 with the defeat, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Wauzeka-Steuben, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.

Richland Center and Wauzeka-Steuben could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings. The Hornets (ranked 214th) will meet Auburndale (ranked 85th) at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Wauzeka-Steuben will square off against Belmont at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (178 vs. 50).
