Softball Recap: Bunnell Beats Joel Barlow for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Bunnell waltzed into their game on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Joel Barlow Falcons. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bulldogs also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Shea Toth was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kira Bryant and Elisa Cabrera did most of the damage at the plate: Bryant went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Cabrera went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Bryant has posted since back in April. Gia Toni was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one stolen base.

Bunnell's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Joel Barlow, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Coming up, Bunnell will venture away from home to take on New Milford at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 4.1, the Green Wave 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Joel Barlow, they will welcome Bethel at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Falcons are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
