Softball Game Preview: Seven Lakes Spartans vs. Mayde Creek Rams

The Seven Lakes Spartans will head out to square off against the Mayde Creek Rams at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Seven Lakes will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Seven Lakes turned things around against Paetow last Friday. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Panthers.

Payton Rich made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three).

Rich wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cielle Whittaker, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. That run was Whittaker's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Mayde Creek didn't have quite enough to beat Cinco Ranch on Saturday and fell 6-5.

Seven Lakes' win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 3-5. As for Mayde Creek, they dropped their record down to 8-5 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Seven Lakes beat Mayde Creek 5-0 when the teams last played back in April of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Seven Lakes since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
