Softball Recap: Covington Academy Gets the Win

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Covington Academy walked away with it. They came out on top against the Lyndon Academy Terriers by a score of 13-8 on Tuesday. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 8-7 victory two weeks ago.

Daisy Pope made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off 16 hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Peyton Ledoux, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025. Sydney Ellis was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Covington Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Covington Academy and bumps their season record up to 6-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Lyndon Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.

Covington Academy will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Terriers: the pair will be back at it again later today.
