League recap: Conway Springs exits state Top 25 after defeat

Conway Springs suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after defeating Belle Plaine. The Cardinals had been ranked 10th, but fell to 28.

Medicine Lodge was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 10th to eighth in Central Plains. The Indians defeated Ellinwood 30-20 earlier in the week.

Medicine Lodge's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Scott Beecher threw for 121 and two touchdowns and Nathan Liebham had 100 yards receiving. On the ground Beecher chipped in 81 yards. Bryant Wornkey helped Medicine Lodge's passing attack out by catching two balls for 13 yards.

6-foot-1 quarterback Matt Loveland of Independent is the league leader in passing yards this season with 927. He has also thrown 11 touchdowns. On the ground, Trinity Academy's Tyler Burns has rushed for 717 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Trevor Copenhaver. The Anthony-Harper-Chaparral star has 14 catches for 445 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Anthony-Harper-Chaparral takes on Conway Springs. The Roadrunners are currently in seventh, while Matt Biehler's team is in second.

Garden Plain extended the longest winning streak in Central Plains this week by beating Haven, 41-6. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
