Basketball Game Preview: John Carroll Catholic Rams vs. St. Edward's Pirates

Having just played yesterday, the John Carroll Catholic Rams will get right back to it and host the St. Edward's Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

John Carroll Catholic will bounce into Wednesday's matchup after beating Melbourne Central Catholic, who they had gone 0-5 against in their five prior meetings. John Carroll Catholic really took it to Melbourne Central Catholic for the full four quarters, racking up a 55-14 victory. With the Rams ahead 34-6 at the half, the game was all but over already.

John Carroll Catholic found their leader in freshman Olivia Laughlin, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 13 points along with six boards and five steals. With that strong performance, Laughlin is now averaging an impressive 2.3 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Rychter, who posted 12 points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, St. Edward's waltzed into their contest on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Patriots 54-3. The team accrued 45 points in the first half and coasted on those for the win.

St. Edward's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 17.0 points per game. As for John Carroll Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.

John Carroll Catholic came up short against St. Edward's in their previous matchup back in January, falling 34-26. Can John Carroll Catholic avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
