Jake Paskert made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Paskert wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Toby Torres, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Torres has become a key player for Piedmont Hills: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-8 otherwise. Another was Josh Gomez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Piedmont Hills hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Oak Grove came up short against Willow Glen on Monday and fell 7-4. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Rams recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Jeremiah Vierra was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Stewart, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Piedmont Hills' victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-8. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Oak Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-18.
Piedmont Hills took their victory against Oak Grove in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 17-1 score. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
