Baseball Recap: Elko Wins Going Away Against Fernley

With a playoff win on the line, Elko rose to the challenge on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Fernley Vaqueros. That's the fourth time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 8-0 victory two weeks ago.

Travis Monett was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Adam Roumanos was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Coy Jones, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Elko lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The victory got Elko back to even at 15-15. As for Fernley, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-16-1.

Elko wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 2-1 loss against Truckee on the 8th. As for Fernley, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 8-4 win against Lowry on the 9th.
