Baseball Game Preview: Charleston Math & Science Riptide vs. Scott's Branch Eagles

The Charleston Math & Science Riptide will venture away from home to challenge the Scott's Branch Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Scott's Branch took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Charleston Math & Science, who comes in off a win.

Charleston Math & Science is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 21-12 margin over Bethune-Bowman on Tuesday. The Riptide not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 21, 2025 (when they won 23-8).

Yohan Tolentino made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Tolentino was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs.

Tolentino wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sebastian Esparza, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI. Another was JD Marchant, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs.

Meanwhile, Scott's Branch fell victim to St. John's and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 18-0 to the Islanders.

Scott's Branch's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Charleston Math & Science, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3-1.

Everything went Charleston Math & Science's way against Scott's Branch when the teams last played back in April of 2018, as Charleston Math & Science made off with a 15-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Riptide since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
