Basketball Recap: Jaylinda Depina and Jazmine Burns Secure Win for Douglas Byrd

There's no place like home for Douglas Byrd, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They took down the Harnett Central Trojans 49-32 on Wednesday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 51-29 back in December of 2024.

Douglas Byrd was led to victory by Jazmine Burns and JayLinda Depina. Burns dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards, while Depina dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards. Depina is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. Sheryraye Johnson was another key player, putting up five points along with eight rebounds and six assists.

Douglas Byrd now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Harnett Central, they dropped their record down to 1-10 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Douglas Byrd will take on Cape Fear at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Harnett Central, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Pine Forest at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
