Baseball Game Preview: Sumner Spartans vs. Garfield Bulldogs

The Sumner Spartans will venture away from home to face off against the Garfield Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Wednesday, everything went Sumner's way against Auburn as Sumner made off with a 15-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won five in a row.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Garfield). They won by a run and slipped past Shorewood 3-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.

Wyatt Bare tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, Garfield saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Max Hudson, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Hudson also got a hit, marking his first of the season. Another was Lockie McIver, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Garfield now has a winning record of 2-1-1. As for Sumner, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
