After a string of four wins, Taft's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell to the Perspectives Leadership/Technology Warriors 56-50. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 286th, while the Warriors are ranked 110th).
Despite the loss, Taft still got an impressive performance from Gabriela Gonzalez, who posted 30 points along with six boards and three steals. That was a full 60% of Taft's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Lejla Drndar also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Perspectives Leadership/Technology to victory, but perhaps none more so than Karla Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. What's more, Thomas also racked up three steals, the most she's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jada Morgan, who earned 17 points in addition to five boards and five steals.
Taft's loss dropped their record down to 10-16. As for Perspectives Leadership/Technology, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.
Taft wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 69-32 defeat against Kenwood on the 31st. Perspectives Leadership/Technology has also already played their next contest, a 74-52 victory against Westinghouse on the 31st.
