Basketball Game Preview: Oakdale vs. Arundel Wildcats

Oakdale will face off against the Arundel Wildcats on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Oakdale is headed into the matchup having just suffered their closest defeat since January 16th on Friday. They fell just short of Frederick by a score of 51-48.

Meanwhile, Arundel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 21st straight loss dating back to last season. They lost to Severna Park at home by a 50-33 margin. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 261st, while the Falcons are ranked 86th).

Despite the defeat, Arundel saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Saffiya Carson posted 12 points and six steals.

Oakdale's loss ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 18-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points over those games. As for Arundel, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-20.

Everything came up roses for Oakdale against Arundel in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as the squad secured a 63-23 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Oakdale since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
