Basketball Recap: Volunteer Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Volunteer unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell 62-49 to the Dobyns-Bennett Indians on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Falcons of the 60-39 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Volunteer lost, don't look at Elizabeth Byington. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 14 points and 15 boards. Emma Miller was another key player, going 5-for-10 on her way to 10 points.

Dobyns-Bennett has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Volunteer wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 43-23 win against West on the 22nd. As for Dobyns-Bennett, they have also already played their next matchup, a 69-50 loss against Elizabethton on the 22nd.
