Basketball Recap: NorthWood Panthers vs. Culver Academies Eagles
NorthWood was the 53-25 winner over Culver Academies when they last played one another back in November of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Panthers lost 59-36 to the Eagles on Thursday. The loss put an end to the Panthers' undefeated start to the season.
NorthWood's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Claire Hill, who posted 14 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals, and Taryn Marcum, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 14 boards. Another player making a difference was Ella Balasa, who scored six points and eight rebounds.
Culver Academies found their leader in freshman Laine Lyles, who shot 56% from the field en route to 22 points and seven steals. Lyles continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Hannah Kresser was another key player, putting up eight points.
Having lost for the first time this season, NorthWood fell to 2-1. As for Culver Academies, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Coming up, NorthWood will take on Highland at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Culver Academies, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Fort Wayne South Side at 10:00 a.m.
