            Baseball Recap: South Decatur Cougars vs. Morristown Yellow Jackets        
        
		
        
        
            South Decatur fought the good fight in their extra-innings  matchup against Morristown  on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Yellow Jackets by a score of  7-5. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Yellow Jackets apparently hadn't forgotten their  defeat the last time these teams played  back in May of 2024.

 Corey Nugent put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he  didn't allow a single  earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't  tossed less than seven  strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate,  going 3-for-4 with two  stolen bases, one  run,  and one  double. He has become a key player for South Decatur: the team is 2-1 when he posts  at  least  two  stolen bases, but 1-5 otherwise.
 In other batting news,  Grady Scudder made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and  went 1-for-3 with two  stolen bases, two  RBI,  and one  double.  Karson Templeton was another key player,  going 1-for-3 with three  stolen bases and one  run.
This is the second loss in a row for South Decatur and  nudges their season record down to 3-6. Sadly, the team can't blame their woes on tough opposition, as that stretch included 3-9 Morristown and 4-7 Waldron. As for Morristown, their win  ended  a  seven-game drought on the road  dating back to last season and  puts them at 3-9.
 Coming up, South Decatur will challenge Waldron at 5:00  p.m.  on Wednesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mohawks have averaged an impressive 6.4  runs per game this season. Morristown will be paying especially close attention to South Decatur's  contest: after South Decatur faces off against Waldron, they'll take on Morristown again  at 5:30  p.m.  on Thursday.
