Preview: West Trojans vs. Maypearl Panthers

West is 5-0 against Maypearl since October of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The West Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Maypearl Panthers at 7:30 p.m. West knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Maypearl likes a good challenge.

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for West on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew A Plus Academy out of the water with a 65-0 final score. Given West's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 522nd, while A Plus Academy is ranked 1141st), the result wasn't exactly an upset.

Gus Crain was a one-man wrecking crew for West as he threw for 206 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground.

Meanwhile, Maypearl got themselves on the board against Inspired Vision on Friday, but Inspired Vision never followed suit. They breezed by the EAGLES on the road to the tune of 62-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Maypearl.

J.t. Washington continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 117 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries. Landyn Sims also helped out with an impressive 86 receiving yards.

West's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 4-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 39.7 points per game. Maypearl has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in five of their first six matchups, giving them a 5-1 record.

Everything came up roses for West against Maypearl in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 89-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for West since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
