With 1,405 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns heading into Friday night's game, Joshua Jones was having a breakthrough season for the Berwick (La.) football team.

On Friday, Jones broke the bank.

According to Zachary Fitzgerald of the Daily Review, the 5-foot-9, 180-pound running back rushed for a state record 617 yards on just 27 carries and nine touchdowns in a 60-29 win at North Vermillion.

According to MaxPreps scorer JB Hover, Jones scored all nine of the Panthers' touchdowns on runs of 57, 50, 86, 90, 72, 13, 31, 17 and 44 yards as his team improved to 5-5.

Jones showed he was explosive earlier this year with a 417-yard, four-touchdown performance in a victory over Ascension Episcopal.

But Friday, he outdid himself, recording the sixth highest single-game mark in history, according to the NFHS national record book. He was well off the record of 754 yards set in 1950 by John Giannantonio (Netcong, N.J.).

But with his performance, Jones went over the 2,000-yard mark for the season.
