Baseball Game Preview: Riverside-Durham Pirates vs. Southern School of Energy and Sustainability Spartans

The Riverside-Durham Pirates will face off against the Southern School of Energy and Sustainability Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Riverside-Durham will be strutting in after a victory while Southern School of Energy and Sustainability will be coming in after a loss.

Riverside-Durham took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Cardinal Gibbons, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Riverside-Durham sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over Cardinal Gibbons on Friday.

Brayden Mottola made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Kj Burton was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Cameron Harper, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Southern School of Energy and Sustainability lost 16-3 to Voyager Academy on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Spartans in their meetings with the Vikings: they've now lost three in a row.

Riverside-Durham's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Southern School of Energy and Sustainability, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
