Brookeland's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's fifth consecutive shutout on Friday. They put the hurt on the Zavalla Eagles with a sharp 17-0 victory. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by 11 runs or more this season.

Paige Powell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Elisabeth Lundquist was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Laney Shepherd was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.

Brookeland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 3.7 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 10.

Brookeland is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Zavalla, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Looking ahead, Brookeland will square off against Chester at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Zavalla has already played their next contest (against Bob Hope), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
