Softball Recap: Lakeland Lakers vs. Wawasee Warriors
The matchup between Lakeland and Wawasee on Monday hardly resembled the 4-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Lakeland Lakers took a 13-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wawasee Warriors. Both teams can probably skip cardio this week after making that many trips around the bases.
Kaitlyn Keck and Jaden Moore stepped up to the plate in a big way. Keck went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI, while Moore went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
On Wawasee's side, Haylee Allen made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Allen was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with six RBI, a triple, and a run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaclynn Worrell, who scored a run while going 3-for-5. Makayla Holder was another key contributor, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, a double, and an RBI.
Lakeland's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Lakeland will head out on the road to square off against Northridge at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northridge has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11 runs per game on average), something Lakeland will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Wawasee, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Elkhart at 5:30 p.m.
