Basketball Game Preview: Centerville Bulldogs vs. Kennard Tigers

Centerville is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Kennard is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Centerville Bulldogs will welcome the Kennard Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Centerville's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six contests.

On Tuesday, Centerville earned a 65-52 win over Apple Springs. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 521st, while the Eagles are ranked 1368th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jake Slaten and Kolt Larsen were among the main playmakers for Centerville as the former dropped a double-double on 32 points and 18 boards and the latter dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten assists. Slaten is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hardy Brown, who posted five points.

Meanwhile, Kennard unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They came up short against Wells, falling 82-57. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Tigers have suffered since November 21, 2024.

Kennard's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 18-5. As for Centerville, their victory bumped their record up to 18-3.

Centerville and Kennard were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in February of 2024, but Centerville came up empty-handed after a 59-58 loss. Can Centerville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
