Malad has gone 9-0-1 against Declo recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Dragons will host the Hornets at 2:00 p.m. Malad will be looking to extend their current 14-game winning streak.
Declo's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: Malad hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Dragons never let Soda Springs get on the board and left with a 17-0 win on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Dragons, who have now won 19 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Sarah Toone looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Hadlee Summers was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 12 matchups. Another player making a difference was Riglee Peterson, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Malad kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 14 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Declo had just enough and edged out Wendell 10-8 on Monday.
Makendrie Harris spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Claire Wilson, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Shayli Stevens, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Malad pushed their record up to 23-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Declo, their victory bumped their record up to 9-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Malad has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Declo struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Malad's way against Declo in their previous matchup last Saturday, as Malad made off with an 11-2 win. Do the Dragons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
