Troutman, a senior who was named Oregon's 4A Player of the Year, led
Crook County (Prineville, Ore.) to its eighth straight state title. She has played a major role in the last four titles. The 5-10 outside hitter finished the 2013 season serving 91.3 percent (83 aces) and had 642 kills, 534 digs, 62 blocks (42 solo) and made only 18 errors in receiving 609 serves.
"Hannah is so powerful, so strong," said Crook County coach Rosie Honl. "She's built like a farm girl and works as hard."
Troutman, who has signed to play volleyball at Oregon State University, was asked to take on extra leadership for the youthful Cowgirls, who featured five freshmen on their varsity roster.
The result was a 38-5 won-loss record and the eighth consecutive state title.
"She was a great mentor," said Honl. "She's so intense, but always asked, ‘Coach what can I do to help the team more.‘ She's such a great leader and with five freshmen we needed it."
Honl said in each of the last two seasons, Troutman had kill shots that left an opposing player with a concussion.
"She is just so strong and so powerful, but also has all the touches," said Honl. "Defensively, she plays the whole court and is just a fantastic passer. She has all the tools.
"She is very consistent and not a showboat. She always works extra and never missed a practice. She showed hard work pays off."
Troutman, who was chosen Oregon's Gatorade Player of the Year, is a two-time Class 4A First Team All-State selection and a two-time Class 4A State Tournament championship game MVP.

"This year has been an amazing year, but one that was a work in progress since these seniors were 11 years old," said Weiss. "I started East Troy Heat for this group and coached them either in club or in high school for the past seven years. So it felt great when this year ended the way that it did, because the girls got to learn a great life lesson. Just because you work hard for a year or two or three, doesn't necessarily mean you get you what you want in life.
"Sometimes it is a lifelong journey before you ever get your dreams to come true. That is something that I am most proud about for the girls. They kept going through many adversities through the years but didn't let that make them stray from what they loved to do. This year was a culmination of all those years of hard work. A year that will never be forgotten."
Weiss said his team adopted the motto "are we willing to be pushed out of our comfort zone?"
"We discussed this every day that we were in the gym," he said. "I wanted to have the girls continue to grow as players, and to do this I needed to be able to ask more out of them than I ever did before. Especially since we have been together for seven years."
