Baseball Recap: Swansboro Wins Going Away Against Richlands

Swansboro barely beat Richlands the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Swansboro's pitcher stepped up to hand Richlands a 9-0 shutout on Friday. That nine run margin sets a new team best for the Pirates this season.

Patrick Hollifield made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Swansboro is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 0-3 otherwise. Hollifield was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Josh Scott and Landen Jenkins did most of the damage at the plate: Scott scored three runs while going 2-for-3, while Jenkins scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Those three runs gave Scott a new career-high.

Swansboro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The win snapped Swansboro's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-4 record. As for Richlands, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.
