Softball Recap: Hurricane Takes Down Ranked Blazer

Hurricane is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Blazer. The Redskins walked away with an 11-7 win over the Tomcats. The victory was familiar territory for the Redskins, who have now won five games in a row.

Hurricane got a great performance from Kate Justice as she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Justice has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Peyton Hudnall was a standout: she scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alexander Anderson, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.

Hurricane hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matches.

Hurricane's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Blazer, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-8.

Looking ahead, Hurricane will welcome George Washington at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Redskins' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season. As for Blazer, they will head out to square off against Boyd County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
