Basketball Game Preview: Buna Cougars vs. Kountze Lions

Buna and Kountze are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2021, but not for long. The Buna Cougars just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Kountze Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

It was a proper cat-fight when Buna faced off against Anahuac on Thursday. Buna blew past Anahuac 70-41. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

Meanwhile, Kountze entered their tilt with Hardin on Monday with 13 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 14. They took their game with ease, bagging a 110-30 victory over the Hornets. The Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 21 contests by 25 points or more this season.

Buna better keep an eye on Zac Sells. He was instrumental in Kountze's win, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten assists. Sells is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed five or more in the last 21 games he's played.

Buna is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 10-18 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.0 points per game. As for Kountze, their win was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 26-2.

Buna was taken down by Kountze 101-45 in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sells, who went 8 of 14 on his way to 24 points in addition to seven steals and five assists.
