Basketball Recap: Yates Center Takes a Loss

If Yates Center was riding high fresh off their 37-12 takedown of Southern Coffey County last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Yates Center Wildcats were beaten by the Oswego Indians 52-16 on Monday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Indians this season, with their most recent loss being a 57-26 defeat last Tuesday.

Despite the defeat, Yates Center saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cayten Cummings posted six points and 12 boards. The dominant performance also gave Cummings a new career-high in assists (three).

Oswego got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Madison Foster out in front who went 9 for 16 to rack up 21 points and eight rebounds. Jaycee Schulz was another key player, putting up 11 points and five steals.

Yates Center has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which is still a better percentage than their 4-13 record this season. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to assists: they averaged an imposing 8.25 assists in those games compared to only 8.25 in the others. As for Oswego, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-6.

Yates Center wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 0-0 victory against Northern Heights on the 11th. As for Oswego, they have also already played their next contest, a 50-34 win against Altoona-Midway on the 11th.
