Softball Game Preview: Hilmar Yellowjackets vs. Orestimba Warriors

The Hilmar Yellowjackets will head out to challenge the Orestimba Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Hilmar was handed a 16-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Escalon 4-3. The win continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won five in a row.

Meanwhile, Orestimba got the win against Sonora on Friday by a conclusive 13-1. Considering the Warriors have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Sophia Machado was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Belany Martens, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Orestimba was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .529. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.

Orestimba pushed their record up to 12-11 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Hilmar, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

Hilmar might still be hurting after the 13-0 defeat they got from Orestimba in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
