Soccer Game Preview: Mesa vs. Sunrise Mountain

The Mesa Jackrabbits will head out on the road to square off against the Sunrise Mountain Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mesa comes in on six and Sunrise Mountain on 11.

Mesa is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Arizona's top teams: Kofa, who was ranked 16th at the time (Mesa was ranked fifth). Mesa never let Kofa onto the board and left with a 3-0 victory on Wednesday. The Jackrabbits' defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last five contests.

Meanwhile, Sunrise Mountain made easy work of Desert View on Wednesday and carried off a 4-1 win. Considering the Mustangs have won ten games by more than two goals this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Mesa's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 20 goals over those five matches. As for Sunrise Mountain, their win bumped their record up to 18-2.

Mesa came out on top in a nail-biter against Sunrise Mountain in their previous matchup back in December of 2021, sneaking past 3-2. Does Mesa have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sunrise Mountain turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
