Basketball Recap: New Bern Bears vs. South Central Falcons
New Bern lost against South Central back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The New Bern Bears opened the new year with a less-than-successful 60-50 defeat to the South Central Falcons. The Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
New Bern lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Lucas Long, who posted ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Reed Pennington, who had ten points.
South Central can attribute much of their success to Tobia Moye, who put up 13 points in addition to six assists and four steals. The dominant performance gave Moye a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Da'Viaus Johnson, who posted nine points and seven rebounds.
New Bern's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for South Central, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
New Bern will venture away from home to take on Northside - Jacksonville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. New Bern is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.2 points per game this season. As for South Central, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 66-49 defeat against Garner on the 4th.
