Football Game Preview: Nimitz Cougars vs. Grand Oaks Grizzlies

The Nimitz Cougars will be playing at home against the Grand Oaks Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

It was a proper cat-fight when Nimitz faced off against Dekaney on Thursday. The Cougars breezed past the Wildcats to the tune of 51-7. The win was familiar territory for the Cougars, who have now won four games in a row.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Grand Oaks, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They blew past Caney Creek, posting a 56-14 victory. The win continues a trend for the Grizzlies in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won six in a row.

Nimitz better keep an eye on Keilan Gause. He was instrumental in Grand Oaks' win, rushing for 201 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only ten carries. Gause's longest rush was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Kaden Carter helped out on the ground, rushing for 89 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Grand Oaks was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 364 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Grand Oaks' defense and their 4.5 sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece ( Cullen Thompson also recorded half a sack). Another thorn in Caney Creek's side was Scotty Routon, who picked up a sack and made nine total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Nimitz's record is now 8-2. As for Grand Oaks, their record now sits at 7-3.

Nimitz beat Grand Oaks 20-7 in their previous meeting back in August of 2023. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Grizzlies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
