Softball Recap: Picayune Takes a Loss

Picayune had lost four straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 10-17 to make it five. They fell just short of the Hancock Hawks by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Maroon Tide have suffered since March 20th.

As for Hancock, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since March 12th.

For Hancock's part, Teegan DeWitt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). DeWitt has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abigail Carver, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Aubre Martin, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

As of now, neither Picayune nor Hancock have any future games scheduled.
