Baseball Recap: El Capitan Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for El Capitan, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They came out on top against the Water Canyon Wildcats by a score of 7-2 on Wednesday. The seven-run effort marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Kendall Hammon made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of El Capitan's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Hammon was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last four times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jairus Hammon, who scored a run and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for El Capitan: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brayden Hammon, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

El Capitan's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Water Canyon, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. El Capitan will head out to square off against Williams at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Water Canyon, they will head out on the road to face off against South Sevier at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
