Plant City has gone a perfect 5-0 against Armwood recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Plant City Raiders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Armwood Hawks at 10:00 a.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Plant City has five straight wins, Armwood has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Plant City is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Brandon 21-2 on Thursday. Fans of the Raiders have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Kayleigh Gibbs was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gibbs was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Isabelle Wright was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Kylie Burden was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.
Plant City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive matches dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Armwood started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Robinson. They came up short against the Knights on Thursday, falling 14-4.
Armwood saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Justine Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Smith is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.
Plant City pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 15.3 runs. As for Armwood, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Armwood's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Plant City has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Armwood, though, as they've been averaging only 2.8 strikeouts. Will Plant City keep running through batters, or will Armwood buck the trend?
Everything went Plant City's way against Armwood in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as Plant City made off with a 24-0 win. Does Plant City have another victory up their sleeve, or will Armwood turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
