Lowell extended the longest winning streak in 1A Special District 5 (8 Man) this week by beating Mapleton, 58-14. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Devils.
McKenzie and Yoncalla played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with McKenzie eventually emerging with a 82-80 victory. Victor Vidal threw for 244 yards and seven touchdowns and ran for 47 yards in the win.
The Eagles' dynamic duo of Will Shaw and Jalen Walton proved tough for the Eagles to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Shaw threw for 370 yards and six touchdowns and Walton had 228 yards receiving. Geoff Payne helped Yoncalla's passing attack out by catching four balls for 168 yards.
Tanner Eastlick was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 190 yards on 25 carries as Crow lost to McKenzie. Teammate Logan Drullinger added to the ground attack by rushing for 61 yards.
6-foot-2 quarterback Vidal of Neil Barrett's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1873. He has also thrown 29 touchdowns. On the ground, the Cougars' Eastlick has rushed for 879 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Walton. The Yoncalla star has 48 catches for 828 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Lowell and the Eagles. Tim Pinson's team comes into the matchup ranked fourth in the state, while McKenzie ranks 22nd.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Eagles take on the Devils. McKenzie's offense has recorded 406 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Lowell has permitted only 181 on the year.
Entering into this week's contest against the Devils, Vidal is short just 127 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season.
