Nation's No. 3 team goes down to league rival.

Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) received two touchdowns from Tyree Randolph and overcame multiple turnovers to shock previously unbeaten DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.), 24-14, in a game that was televised nationally on ESPN2.

DeMatha entered the game ranked No. 3 in the Xcellent 25 National Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.

Lorenzo Harrison helped DeMatha get on the board first with an explosive, highlight reel 92-yard touchdown.

Gonzaga responded with a Max Fisher 35-yard touchdown catch. Then Gonzaga's defense went to work.

Against a DeMatha offense that came in averaging nearly 40 points per game, Gonzaga proved up to the task. It forced turnovers and limited big plays. It led 14-7 at half and later went up 21-7 following Randolph's second touchdown.

DeMatha has some of the most impressive victories in the country, but a narrow win against Bishop McNamara last week suggested that perhaps the Stags were ripe for an upset.

Entering the game with a 6-0 record, Gonzaga was certainly no slouch. The team's defense has been strong all season. It now has a strong argument for a spot in the Xcellent 25.
