Softball Game Preview: Desert Edge Scorpions vs. Verrado Vipers

Desert Edge hasn't had much luck against Verrado recently, but that could start to change on Friday. Desert Edge is taking a road trip to challenge Verrado at 6:00 p.m. Desert Edge has given up an average of 10.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Desert Edge's offense. They lost 19-0 to Buckeye on Thursday. The Scorpions' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Meanwhile, Verrado waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They were the clear victors by a 16-3 margin over the Sidewinders. The result was nothing new for the Vipers, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Jaiden Stell, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Marchese, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Verrado hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most two strikeouts in three consecutive contests.

Desert Edge's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Verrado, their record now sits at 9-1.

Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Desert Edge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .407. However, it's not like Verrado struggles in that department as they've averaged .387. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Desert Edge couldn't quite get it done against Verrado when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 7-2. Can Desert Edge avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
