San Fernando and Kennedy are an even 4-4 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Tigers will welcome the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
San Fernando hadn't beaten Sylmar on the road since October 28, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them on Saturday. The Tigers took down the Spartans 43-24. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.
San Fernando's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Andrew Newchurch, who picked up 81 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 43 yards and one touchdown. Another pass catcher making a difference was Darrion Turner Jr, who picked up 111 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
San Fernando didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Newchurch and Rickie Garcia. Garcia got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, while Kennedy put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for Canoga Park. The Cougars blew past the Hunters 49-0. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won four games by 29 points or more so far this season.
San Fernando better keep an eye on Diego Montes. He was instrumental in Kennedy's win, throwing for 183 yards and a pair of TDs on only 11 passes, while also rushing for 35 yards and one touchdown. Josue Sandoval was another key rusher, rushing for 43 yards and a pair of scores.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Kennedy's defense and their four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. They got some further help from Jacob DaSilva: he picked up a sack and made eight total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Kennedy's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for San Fernando, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
San Fernando was dealt a bruising 62-20 defeat at the hands of Kennedy when the teams last played back in September of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Montes, who rushed for 209 yards and three TDs on only eight carries, and also threw for 184 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 16 passes. Now that the Tigers know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
