Football Recap: Newburgh Free Academy Takes a Loss + How To Watch

After flying high against McQuaid Jesuit last Saturday, Newburgh Free Academy came back down to earth. The Goldbacks fell just short of the Cornwall Central Dragons by a score of 17-14 on Friday. The Goldbacks lost against the Dragons in their previous head to head back in September of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 36-10 score last time.

Leading Cornwall Central to victory were Danny Twomey and Jordan Bishop. Twomey rushed for 60 yards and one TD, while Bishop gained 142 total yards and a touchdown. The dominant performance also gave Twomey a new career-high in passing yards (125).

Newburgh Free Academy's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Cornwall Central, their win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.

Looking ahead, Newburgh Free Academy is headed away from home for the first time to take on Minisink Valley at 7:00 p.m. on the 20th. As for Cornwall Central, they will host Monroe-Woodbury at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
