Volleyball Game Preview: St. Edward Green Wave vs. Elgin Maroons

The St. Edward Green Wave will square off against the Elgin Maroons at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Elgin took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on St. Edward, who comes in off a win.

St. Edward took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They came out on top against Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family by a score of 2-0. The victory continues a trend for the Green Wave in their matchups with Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family: they've now won three in a row.

The final score came out to 25-19, 25-16.

St. Edward found their leader in sophomore Cutler Brauer, who had 13 digs and two aces. Those 13 digs set a new season-high mark for Brauer.

Meanwhile, Elgin came up short against Waukegan on Tuesday and fell 2-0. The Maroons have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-13.

St. Edward's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Elgin, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.

St. Edward couldn't quite get it done against Elgin in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 as they fell 2-0. Can the Green Wave avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
