Softball Game Preview: Potomac Falls Panthers vs. Lightridge Lightning

Potomac Falls is 0-6 against Lightridge since April of 2024 but things could change on Tuesday. The Panthers will square off against the Lightning at 6:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Potomac Falls sitting on three straight wins and Lightridge on 20.

Potomac Falls is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They blew past Massaponax 10-3.

Meanwhile, Lightridge never let their opponents score two weeks ago. They put the hurt on Briar Woods with a sharp 18-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Lightning, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Lightridge got a great performance from Karissa Bowes as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Bowes has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Riley Thomas and Emmi Harris did most of the damage at the plate: Thomas went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Harris went 2-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most hits Thomas has posted since back in April. Cara Welton was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Lightridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Briar Woods only posted an OBP of .167.

Potomac Falls' record is now 8-14. As for Lightridge, their record now sits at 20-0.

Potomac Falls suffered a grim 19-0 defeat to Lightridge in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
