Softball Recap: Carlin Gets the Win

While Carlin's win against Smith Valley wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Railroaders had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 6-5 on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Railroaders in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won six in a row.

Joey Drown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, Briley Martinez was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Amelya Doxey, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Carlin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Smith Valley only managed six.

Carlin's record now sits at 8-9. As for Smith Valley, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 9-5 record.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Carlin beat the Bulldogs by a score of 18-15 later that day.
