Softball Recap: Lumberton Wins Going Away Against Douglas Byrd

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Gray's Creek, Lumberton was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Douglas Byrd Eagles with a sharp 21-0 win. With that victory, the Pirates brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

Norah Johnson made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Jaelyn Hammond was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Jayla Hunt was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Lumberton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Lumberton's record now sits at 3-5. As for Douglas Byrd, they are on a 23-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Looking ahead, Lumberton will square off against Whiteville at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lumberton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Douglas Byrd, they will face off against Gray's Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Douglas Byrd has given up an average of 20.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
