Softball Recap: Portsmouth Wins Going Away Against Fairland

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Dawson-Bryant, Portsmouth was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They put the hurt on the Fairland Dragons with a sharp 8-2 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Trojans have posted against the Dragons since April 30, 2021.

Katie Ankrom spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on nine hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kya Barton, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Caitlyn Galloway was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Portsmouth hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The win snapped Portsmouth's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-14 record. As for Fairland, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-19-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Portsmouth will face off against Southeastern at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fairland, they will challenge Wellston at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Golden Rockets will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Dragons surely won't give up without a fight.
