Softball Game Preview: Aztec Tigers vs. Shiprock Chieftains

Aztec has gone a perfect 10-0 against Shiprock recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Tigers will look to defend their home field against the Chieftains at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Aztec has eight straight wins, Shiprock has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Aztec will bounce into Thursday's contest after beating Gallup, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Tigers never let the Bengals get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Tuesday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.

Reagan Bradshaw was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kayci Phillips, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Aztec was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .533. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in eight consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Shiprock lost 12-1 to Miyamura on Tuesday.

Aztec's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-10. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Shiprock, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.

Aztec took their win against Shiprock in their previous matchup last Tuesday by a conclusive 20-2 score. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chieftains turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
