Basketball Recap: Seth Rivers' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Whitewater over Fayette County

Whitewater lost against Fayette County back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Whitewater Wildcats took an 81-71 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fayette County Tigers. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Whitewater lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Seth Rivers, who went 9 for 14 on his way to 23 points. Those 23 points gave Rivers a new career-high. Trey Robbins was another key player, going 7 of 17 en route to 15 points.

Even though they lost, Whitewater smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 22 consecutive matchups.

Jackson Rutley was his usual excellent self, going 6 for 10 from beyond the arc on his way to 32 points along with six assists and five boards for Fayette County. Another player making a difference was Jaren Blankenship, who went 9 of 13 en route to 21 points.

Whitewater's loss dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Fayette County, their victory bumped their record up to 10-7.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Whitewater Wildcats take on the Spalding Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Whitewater is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.3 points per game this season. Fayette County has already played their next game, a 67-53 win against LaGrange on the 29th.
