Softball Recap: Leander Takes Down Seguin in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Leander had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Seguin Matadors. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 17 games by six runs or more this season.

Scarlett Geurin tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits.

On the hitting side, Madelyn Lee was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Jalisa Rodriguez was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Leander was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 18-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory was the seventh in a row for Leander, bringing their record up to 26-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Seguin, their defeat dropped their record down to 29-7.

Leander will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Matadors: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.
