Basketball Recap: Excel Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Excel challenged Monroe County on Friday. The Excel Panthers were dealt a 62-19 defeat at the hands of the Monroe County Tigers. Sadly, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 54-17 last Saturday.

Excel's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Uri Guy, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 12 points and six boards. Guy has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kendall Plunkett, who posted five points in addition to 14 rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Excel smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Excel's defeat dropped their record down to 5-18. As for Monroe County, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-15.

As of now, neither Excel nor Monroe County have any future games scheduled.
